TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AND CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE DOOR. Box office opens 30 minutes prior to the concert. Why have on-line sales ended? We end on-line sales a little early since most of our volunteers are orchestra members. This gives us time to prep the tickets, fold the programs, and bake the sweets for the refreshments table. We look forward to seeing you at the concert!

More about the concert:
This year's first Classics Concert features some of Americas most beloved composers as we paint pictures of various scenes of Americana. From Broadway, down through New England, all the way out west, we will tell a tale of the American experience that pulls from many different identities of American culture.

The concert opens with Leonard Bernstein's Overture to Candide. The beloved, long-time Music Director of the New York Philharmonic was a quintessential figure in American classical music. This overture is one of his most adored concert pieces. Following that will be one of his contemporaries, Samuel Barber. While lesser known today, Barber was an award-winning composer whose music has been the soundtrack to some of the most important moments in our history. His First Essay for Orchestra is an introspective and somewhat manic exploration of the moods and motives that can be shared throughout the orchestra. Finishing up the first half of the concert is Aaron Copland's famous Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes. This suite is a collection of pieces from his ballet score of the same name. Most notable within these works is Hoe Down.

The second half of this concert will feature the music of a Czech composer: Antonín Dvoák. His famous Symphony No. 9, From the New World, was composed while he was the acting director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York City. While he spent his scholastic calendar directing the conservatorys curriculum and artistic endeavors, he spent the summer months traveling to and from various parts of the country with a high percentage of Czech populations. As such, he saw many wondrous and beautiful scenes of American landscapes, and became familiar with many folk songs, African American spirituals, and cultural musical practices that he included in the composition of the symphony.

This concert is certainly an excellent start to a season filled with wonderful music being performed by wonderful musicians. Please join us for this concert weekend, and help support the Symphony as we embark on our season of "Orchestral Voices".

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, programs and artists may change without notice.
