Known in Philadelphia since 1986 for its "visually arresting," "highly imaginative," dance theater works, and unusual collaborative projects Anne-Marie Mulgrew and Dancers Company (AMM & DCO) has performed more than 75 major works choreographed by founder/Artistic Director Anne-Marie Mulgrew. These works have appeared in theaters, alternative spaces, site specific locations, schools, festivals and film/TV in the U.S. and Canada. AMM & DCO has engaged in numerous collaborative projects with designers, musicians, and filmmakers.
Philadelphia performance highlights include The Barnes Museum, Christ Church Neighborhood House Theater, The Porch-30 St. Station, the University of the Arts Theater/Drake Theater, The Painted Bride, The Institute of Contemporary Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, University of PA Museum of Anthropology & Archaeology, The Philadelphia Cathedral, Mandell Theater, Penn's Landing, Fairmount Park, The Horticultural Center, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philly Fringe Festival/Live Arts, Parallax Pictures Studios, Conwell Dance Theater, The Sanctuary at The Rotunda, The Performance Garage, and The Kimmel Center to name a few.
AMM & DCO was recently featured on WHYY's Friday Arts Program. The segment aired June 2017 with additional airings through Spring 2018 produced by Karen Smyles.
The company has appeared in NYC at University Settlement House, Context Studios, DanceSpace, the DIA Center, the Dumbo Festival, Evolving Arts Studio Free Range Studio, UBU Repertory Theatre and Movement Research. In July 2011, the company made its debut at Dance Place, Washington DC and was the first Philadelphia-based company to appear twice at the prestigious fFIDA Festival in Toronto, Canada. AMM & DCO was the first company to perform a site-specific work Le Dada va Gaga dans 2011 set in the sanctuary space in a joint celebration of the company's 25th Anniversary and 100th Birthday of the Rotunda building as part of the citywide PIFA Festival.
In 2017, AMM & DCO created A View from Within a site-specific traveling dance installation tailored to the Ryerss Museum and Burholme Park sponsored by Performances in Public Spaces.
AMM & DCO's commissions include Friends of the Rodin Museum, The Borowsky Gallery, WHYY-Channel 12 TV, Chester Springs Studio, The Mahler Project and the 10th Annual Enterprise Awards.
Ms. Mulgrew's acclaimed choreography for The Tales of the Buffoon which was commissioned by and has appeared on Channel 12 TV nationally, continues to charm thousands of home viewers and was screened at the 2015 RAD Festival in Kalamazoo MI.
Fusing modern dance, theater, music, technology and art, the company charms, provokes and informs audiences of all ages with its insightful and wacky views of the world. The company consists of 5-7 professional dancers and esteemed peer collaborators. Additional performers are used on a project basis to flesh out materials and involve new communities.
AMM & DCO believes in dance education and has conducted 60 residency programs primarily for Delaware Valley Schools. AMM & DCO is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization AMM & DCO's mission is to educate and involve the public in the performance and creation of new interdisciplinary dance works through performances, workshops, residencies and special projects.
