MORE ABOUT THE FILM AND FILMMAKER
I am making the film Cockroach because, for most of queer lifeand especially during my gender transitionI felt like one. Small, invisible, misunderstood. With the rise of anti-Black and anti-trans legislation, I have feared my own extinction. But I am not the only one. We all find ourselves scattering, looking for connection, and a way to survive nuclear and political fallout. This film is for audiences whove had to make hard decisions in order to become their authentic selveswho, while facing fear, somehow still meet love. In America, and especially the South, trans people like me suffer from misinformation, discrimination, and bodily attacks. Im making this film to show that we are cockroaches in the best way: Weird. Resilient. Survivalist. Unstoppable in numbers. We deserve stories where we can make decisions about our bodies, conquer our fears, fall in love, and make some damn money. - Justice Singleton
