The Four Mandalas puja that is practiced regularly at Sakya Monastery focuses on Tara according to the lineage that the Bengali Buddhist master Atisha brought to Tibet in the 11th century and eventually came into the Sakya tradition. In this puja, the prayer of the 21 Taras is reiterated to overcome all obstacles, and accomplish all favorable conditions that support spiritual growth and wellbeing.
In this special weekend program, H.E. Khöndung Avikrita Vajra Sakya Rinpoche will bestow the primary Tara initiation followed by all 21 Tara initiations that correspond to the famous prayer. The initiations are being given according to the lineage of Atisha.
Participation is intended to be for the entire program. However, those who wish may attend the Friday evening teaching only. It is also permissible to attend only the Khadiravani Tara initiation but, to attend the Saturday and Sunday initiations, it is mandatory to attend the Khadiravani Tara initiation. Those attending the entire program order a copy of the book of sadhanas at the conclusion of the Sunday afternoon session. Participation necessitates being vegetarian for the weekend and to commit to aspiring bodhicitta.
