Washington Swine Information Day features an array of presentations that have been organized to meet the diverse and unique needs of Pacific Northwest swine producers. The theme for the day is Managing for Healthy Productive Pigs to Produce High Quality Pork. Featured speaker, Dr. Chris Hostetler, National Pork Board Director of Animal Science and former WSU Swine Center Manager and WSU Professor will be back in the Pacific Northwest to share his expertise in swine nutrition and reproduction. Dr. Hostetler has an excellent understanding of swine production from breeding to marketing and the unique challenges and opportunities in raising pigs in Washington. In addition, to Dr. Hostetler presentation on Swine Nutrition Fundaments, the morning topics will include an update from WSU Animal Science Department, genetic test available for swine production, and information on market and breeding swine evaluation and selection. The morning session will conclude with an update from the National Pork Bard, before a pork featured lunch. The afternoon session will be lead off with an economic outlook for pork and feed cost for 2025. Dr. Hostetler will give a presentation on reproduction basics for the swine herd. The afternoon will conclude with two presentation by Washington State Dept. of Ag and USDA Wildlife Services on steps to prevent disease introduction and pest in Washington respectively. WSDA Pesticide credits have been applied for these two presentations. Registration for the days event is $25 per person and includes seminar, handouts, lunch and break refreshments. An all-day youth registration, $15, is also available to 4-H and FFA members. Individuals may also attend just the afternoon session for $10. There is a $15 per person late charge for registrations postmarked after January 30, 2025. Please pre-register so we can ensure adequate accommodations and meals.
