ELLIS ISLAND STORIES presented by The Hypothetical Theatre and The Center for Musical Arts
Ellis Island Stories is a theatrical presentation based on oral histories of people who passed through the immigration station 1892-1924. The show has had a rich history as it was first created and installed at The Ellis Island Immigration Museum from 1992-2000 and toured schools, festivals, libraries, etc over the following years around the country. It was revised to include the story of a modern Mexican immigrant to allow audiences to understand that while the laws and attitudes surrounding immigration sometimes change, the experience and desires to search for a better life in America do not.
Now, the show continues to evolve with live music from the turn of the century of the various countries that the immigrants came from and the new sound it would create, an American sound, as they influenced one another into a great melting pot. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion and questions from the audience.
