Joy And Brotherhood

The Westchester Music of India Group performs once a year with a live orchestra of Western instruments augmented with specialized Indian instruments. Our performances are hybridized fusion musicals melding East-West musical cultures.

For our 9th concert, we have laid out an ambitious program. Our theme is Joy and Brotherhood, celebrating India's 75th Independence anniversary and freedom from colonial rule. With an eclectic combination of Indian and western chorus, specialized Indian instruments and full western orchestra, this program will be in three parts:

First we celebrate brotherhood, amongst those of us from the Indian subcontinent and then of us with the people of our adopted country-USA. We celebrate melding of East-West cultures through hybridized fusion music performances to spread an even broader message of brotherhood.

For this performance we will have joyous Freedom songs from Bollywood celebrating our broad cultural heritage and motherland. There will be rare orchestral music inspired by Ravi Shankar with Western and Indian instruments.

Additionally Music of India Chorus will be joined by the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra and the 50 voices of Hudson Chorale and Westchester Chorale. In keeping with the theme, the performance will feature 'Ode to Joy' from Beethovens 9th symphony specially translated from German to Hindi for this performancea historic world premiere.
