Reading as Social Justice (with STEM Clock Hours!): Every Student, Every Classroom, Every School
The Science of Reading and Structured Literacy has become an important topic in education and has been highlighted in the news. We will review the tenets of Structured Literacy and the role it plays in education. We will then demonstrate how to embed Structured Literacy across curriculum. Time will be provided for teachers to work on implementing elements of this instruction in everyday curriculum. There will be breakouts for Elementary and Middle/High School teachers. Please come with lesson plans in hand! After the morning sessions, we will break for one hour for lunch. Please bring a bag lunch or plan to go out. There are limited options in the immediate area. Light snacks will be available. In the afternoon we will offer 2 extra sessions: using assistive technology and the why & how of implementing structured literacy. You will have opportunities to try out various games and network with educators from other districts. There will also be prizes and surprises!
