The Hilo Sessions (Vol. 1)
The Hilo Sessions (Vol. 1) is an intimate concert series showcasing our local artists and community organizers. At the intersection of art and activism is where change occurs. It is our joy to provide alternate social spaces for music and art appreciators to collectivize and celebrate life. Each session will feature a different organizer as guest speaker--representing a community org that is doing impactful work for da aina and da people.
The debut event will be kicking off its monthly series with two funky rockin' bands that you won't wanna miss: Aguamelon a Hilo-based six-piece band led by Asha Azama, playing a fusion of neo-soul, nujazz, latin, and funk. Their sound is described as--if Bill Withers and Curtis Mayfield had a baby raised by Jamiroquai and Erykah Badu. Though they have an intricate sound and oftentimes complex arrangements, they casually describe themselves as a family band. "We don't need to play in front of people, we have a damn good time on our own!" says Hawk Devi, the violinist and mamma of the band. Their music carries messages of love and loss, hope and beauty, perseverance and the power of the people

Ydine and Fortress a high energy ensemble of Big Island musicians bringing fun and heartfelt vibes to the stage. Blending sounds of rock, reggae, funk and ska, they love to ring in the cosmic moment with joy and a sense of kuleana. Ydine describes her writing style as politico-spiritual, and she inspires people to rise in the glory of love, life and beauty to perpetuate the vibrance of our beautiful planet
You can view her older singer-songwriter work here: www.ydinemusic.com and check out what they've been up to more recently on Instagram @Ydine _______________________________________________________________________________ Our guest speaker this month is Hawaii Patients Union, a member-run medical cannabis org advocating for patients rights and plant sovereignty. Amongst many offerings and opportunities they already have for you, they will also be cordially inviting you to a very special upcoming event they are hosting. Come learn the full scope of your rights as a patient (and grower) and be a part of the movement that is shifting our collective relationship with the sacred plant medicine away from industrialization and towards holistic integrity. www.hawaiipatientsunion.com

Some of his fine work will be available for purchase at the show. www.kerrymarkgreen.com IG: @kerrymarkgreen _______________________________________________________________________________ There will be an organic elixir bar serving pupus, 'awa, and fresh cold-pressed juices (virgin/spiked) Kukuau Studio's donation-based bar will also be open for beer, wine, and spirits
