These documentary and narrative films show fearless kids overcoming bias, bullying, poverty, living in wartime and other seemingly insurmountable challenges to stand strong and embrace their identities and life. Along the way, they have lessons for all of us. There is nothing that these young people cant do.

Cynthia, who is 12, is very poor. Both of her parents died from malaria and her days start with fetching water, without having any breakfast. But her way to school through the village and a forest is her path to a better future, she believes. She wants to become a member of Parliament.

Under My Skin

Sixteen-year-old Tracy carries a big secret. She is infected with the HIV virus, which she got from her mother at birth. Every day, Tracy takes medication to prevent her from becoming seriously ill. In Uganda, many people are afraid of HIV. But Tracy knows better. She decides to no longer keep her secret to herself.

Ilyas lives in Rome, with his Algerian father and Italian mother. His way to school is not a long way in terms of distance, but its a long way in terms of breaking prejudices and preparing the future for a multicultural open society. Ilyas is kind of a world ambassador.

The 15th Annual Children's Film Festival Seattle is a cinematic extravaganza that celebrates the best and brightest in international films for children, including animation, feature length films, short films, and hands-on workshops. Since 2005, Childrens Film Festival Seattle has grown to become the largest and most respected film festival on the West Coast dedicated to children ages 3-16. Each year, Northwest Film Forum selects childrens films from dozens of countries, reaching more than 10,000 people during festival screenings and field trips in Seattle, and a subsequent festival tour of up to 25 U.S. venues.
