Vivid Motion - Summer Shows Eclipse and Choose
Created by MJ Emerson, Eclipse, uses dance to intertwine the stories of Alice in Wonderland, the Prodigal son, and a War Veteran coming home. This one act show is a favorite of the Portland community, using music from Dark Side of the Moon, Emerson has created a stark look at the way people's lives and stories connect.
Choose, created by Brigitte Paulus, is a prequel to her 2010 work Choices. A look at childhood influences and family dynamics through dance and narration, this second act explores the life of a child growing up in a confusing, abusive family. Using a mix of existing and original music, Paulus tells the story of a girl who chooses a family of her own.
While there is no overt sexuality in either show, both explore themes of violence, mental illness, and abuse. They both end with hope, but may not be suitable for very young children. Parents should be prepared to talk to their older kids after the show.
