The Cabin Project and French For Rabbits
The Cabin Project (PDX) with French For Rabbits (New Zealand)

The Cabin Project, made up of four Portland-based queer women, is an indie rock band whose sound stems from haunting choruses, two-part harmonies, pedals, synths and string sections. The songs are musically expansive, yet retain an intimacy similar to that of The National, Warpaint and Bon Iver.
The band started as a project of Katie Sawicki, a former-folksinger from Brooklyn. After moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2008, Sawicki sought out musicians to collaborate with, leading her to musical partner Zanny Geffel, an orchestral drummer, rooted in jazz and percussion. Newest members, Jean Mastaler and Kelly Clifton create the bands strings and bass section.
The Cabin Project's newest album, "Decenter" was released January 31st, 2019. It was recorded by engineer Josh Powell of The Map Room Studio in Portland, Oregon, and mastered by acclaimed NYC based Sarah Register.
"The songs on The Cabin Project's fifth album Decenter stream like a soundtrack to a movie about a life that could be anyones. They ground us in gentle crescendos and the vast fullnesses of orchestral sounds, punctuated by restful measures that wind down like grateful breaths." - Vortex Magazine
Best described by Tucson weekly...The Cabin Project is "A sonic reflection of watching a Southern winter unfold through a smudged window at a Greyhound bus station, the music is intimate and subtle and warm. It reveals melodic sparseness of Leonard Cohen and post-Low creep. And like Cohen, The Cabin Project has a lonesome sound, but not so much to make you feel all alone."

French for Rabbits has been whispering dream-pop sad songs since 2012. Hailing from New Zealand, they have established themselves as a world-class act with seven international tours under their belt and festival appearances from Iceland to Austin. Fronted by the delicately voiced Brooke Singer, their emotionally intelligent music is evocative of land and sea, awash with glistening layers, and propelled along by the intricate instrumentation of guitarist John Fitzgerald, drummer Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa, and multi-instrumentalists Ben Lemi and Penelope Esplin.

They have toured in Europe several times, performed alongside Agnes Obel, and New Zealand luminaries including Lorde, Marlon Williams, Tiny Ruins and Nadia Reid. Their music has featured on TV series including The Vampire Diaries, and Being Human.

In 2019, they embarked on their first USA tour with 21 shows around the country and appearances at SXSW following the international release of their second album The Weight of Melted Snow on Muscle Beach Records.
Despite creating some of New Zealands most hauntingly beautiful music, their live shows are often interspersed with humour, sideways charm and unexpected tangents, being described as able to make a concert hall feel like a living room.
their musics beating heart is often shrouded by atmospherics and mystique, and they seem to operate under the rightful assumption that a well-placed whisper can be as powerful as dramatically belting it out
