Scroggins and Rose in Tacoma
Scroggins & Rose, the duo of violinist Alisa Rose and mandolinist Tristan Scroggins, was formed in 2013 after they met as faculty members at Nimblefingers Bluegrass and Oldtime Workshop in British Columbia. When they started playing tunes together late one night, the two immediately discovered a strong musical connection.

The son of a National Banjo Champion, Tristan Scroggins was surrounded with bluegrass traditions from birth. Having performed everywhere from rural bluegrass festivals to the Grand Ol Opry, Tristan was awarded the prestigious Instrumentalist of the Year Momentum Award by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2017. While attending San Francisco Music Conservatory, where she received a M.M. in Chamber Music, Alisa Rose also devoted herself to mastering bluegrass fiddle. Her versatile style was featured in ensembles that encompassed her love of both roots music and classical chamber music, including the modern-folk ensemble Real Vocal String Quartet, Grammy-nominated classical crossover stars Quartet San Francisco, and Rockygrass (bluegrass) Band Contest winners 49 Special. Combining two lifetimes of commitment to craft, technique, and stylistic integrity, Scroggins & Rose create creative contemporary roots music with the expression and detail of classical music, the ebullient drive of fiddle music, and the thrilling virtuosity of both traditions.

Their last record, both in concept and creation, was very improvisational. The duo wanted to explore the intersection  between Western classical and American folk music. Their next album, which will be funded in part by a FreshGrass Album grant, explores the full sonic range of possibilities for the duo. The albums original tunes draw on bluegrass compact song structures, pop songs dramatic arc, and Bachs two-part Inventions for keyboard, which follow a linear melodic journey of two contrasting voices from beginning to end.

Tickets: $20 per person, 100% goes to the performers.
Note: there won't be an official potluck for this show, but please feel free to bring whatever food/beverage you wish. For yourself or to share, whatever.

This will be a quiet, listening, acoustic show in a private residence in Tacoma. Ages "able to be quiet and sit still" and up.  Stair navigation required for the front entryway and there is a large friendly, elderly dog, so fair warning to those with dog allergies. House concert in the Hilltop neighborhood (address given upon ticket purchase).
