Jennifer Evans and Mike Modern at Along the Way Coffeehouse
Jennifer Evans and Mike Modern are appearing at The Along The Way Coffee House sharing the stage for the evening event.
Jennifer Evans is an accomplished finger style guitarist with a rich voice. She performs the honed, socially relevant compositions of her songwriter brother, Griff Evans, as well as material by other contemporary songwriters. She has visited the Along The Way Coffee House, performing impressively at our annual Open Mic nights for the past two years, and has drawn many requests for a return.
Available as a CD, Jennifers album "The Last Cheap Hotel" was featured by the late, great Oscar Brand, NY City's legendary radio host, on his tribute show to friend Pete Seeger. Referring to Jennifers material, he commented that these are songs that Pete would have sung.
Folkworld's music critic David Hintz said, of Jennifer: "Dig in folk fans, this is the real deal."

Mike Modern also came to attention of our audiences at the annual ATW open mic, and we are very pleased he has agreed to bring his eclectic repertoire to our stage this June.
Mike developed an interest in folk music in his early childhood, singing traditional folk songs along with his father at home, at piano, and also along with their record player spinning out 78 RPM versions of cowboy songs, and songs of the sea. As he became old enough to learn how to read and use the local library, the world of Folk Music, both from the US, and from around the world, became available to him.
1965 brought guitar playing to Mikes attention, and as he began playing, his musical interests began taking shape under the influence of Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Cisco Huston, Huddie Ledbetter, Josh White, the Clancy Brothers and many others.
His work for 33 years as a Public School Guidance Counselor kept Mike busy until his retirement in 2009, when he was able to devote serious time to his musical interests. For the past 10 years, Mike has been active in the Folk Music circles of the York, Maine area, where he may be heard singing and playing cowboy songs, sea songs, Scottish and Irish songs, songs which he has collected from as far afield as the Maritime Provinces of Canada, and songs which he himself has written.
