5-Minute Play Workshop
Less is more! Join Oracle Performing Arts for a 2-day writing workshop focused on developing short, 5(ish)-minute plays.
Learn how to do a lot in just a short amount of time. Participants will have the opportunity to develop and receive feedback on up to 3 script ideas. Plays created during this workshop may be considered for inclusion in Oracle's touring program of 5-minute plays.
Who: This 2-day workshop is best for writers with at least some experience with playwriting or with narrative structure
When: Saturday June 8th from 12:30-4:30pm AND Sunday June 9th 4:00-7:00pm
Where: The White Box, Liberty Station
How Much: Participants choose their registration fee according to their ability to pay, ranging from $20-$50

Workshop Participants Will: Learn basic guidelines for creating short work
Work from writing prompts to help get the juices flowing (or develop existing ideas)
Receive feedback on their work
Give feedback to other participants
Our Structure: Day 1:
After a brief introduction, workshop time will be divided between writing and giving/receiving feedback
Participants will respond to two different writing prompts (you may choose to continue work with the 1st prompt or your own idea if desired)
Writing portions are structured in bursts with short breaks
Feedback will be given in pairs or small groups of no more than 4
Homework, if desired: continue development and revisions
Day 2: Participants will continue to revise their work from Day 1
Participants will receive feedback on new developments in small groups
Participants will respond to and receive feedback on work from a final prompt (or continue work on their chosen idea)
We will have a brief wrap-up discussion at the end of day 2

About the Facilitator: Dr. Katie Turner is a Lecturer in Theatre History at San Diego State University, where she teaches Theatre History, Script Analysis, and Improvisational Acting. She is also an actor, producer, and dramaturge, with two decades of experience studying and producing theatre.
