This April, LANGSTON will showcase stories from the African Diaspora through the lens of over 25 independent filmmakers in the 16th annual Langston Hughes African American Film Festival.The Langston Hughes African American Film Festival (LHAAFF) is a preeminent event for LANGSTON, an organization with a deep-rooted legacy as a hub of African American arts and culture in Seattle. The 2019 festival lineup truly celebrates the nuance of Black storytelling, boasting films that grapple with themes both potent and timely in the current political climate as well as stories of self-discovery and personal triumph.
The LangstonPass allows you full access to all LHAAFF events, including workshops, panel discussions, opening night reception, film screenings and Q&As.

THURSDAY April 25

Emerging Visionaries Short Film Showcase & Reception - Filmmakers in Attendance
FRIDAY April 26
4:30-7:00 pm | Women Empowered
Two unique stories of women taking necessary risks in their quests for triumph after trauma.
8:00-10:30 pm | On the Beat
Two films explore themes of Black music: A documentary uncovers the birth of Africas most exported music genre and a drama follows a passionate DJ in pursuit of his dream.
SATURDAY April 27
12:00-2:30 pm | Perseverance
A series of films in various genres showcase characters who ascend from challenging circumstances, often gaining a stronger sense of purpose in the process.
2:30-3:30 pm | Filmmaker Panel: Black Storytelling
Audience members are invited to engage in lively, up close and personal conversation on the theme of Black storytelling with filmmakers in attendance.
3:30-8:00 pm | SIXR Virtual Reality Workshops & Demonstrations
Virtual Reality, (VR), is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Together with four other local VR Technology companies Tana Yasu is bringing a full day of workshops, demonstrations, and panel discussions with the innovative leaders of today's erupting technology trends.
4:30-7:00 pm | In the System
Following the stories of Black politicians in the South and a Brooklyn-based teen volunteering with the NYPD, this series of films interrogates the complex relationship between U.S. politics and Black American experiences.
8:00-10:30 pm | College Try
Three stories dive into the lives of young adults fumbling to find their own lane, including a feature-length comedy following a rich freshman shooting his shot at joining a poor, but proud fraternity.
SUNDAY April 28
3:00-5:00 pm | The Motherland
6:00-8:30 pm | Closing Night
Closing night of LHAAFF 2019 celebrates both the past and future of independent Black film with a showcase of youth-made films in partnership with SIFF and a final screening of a documentary chronicling the Los Angeles Rebellion.
