MIX presents Drunken Prayer and A Lee Edwards
MIX is proud to present Drunken Prayer(Morgan Geer/Freakwater/The Handsome Family) and A Lee Edwards (The Loudermilks, Lou Ford)in our intimate listening room on March 28th.
Morgan Geer is the American songwriter behind Drunken Prayer, and current guitar player for iconic alt-country goths, Freakwater. Recently Morgan has been touring internationally with The Handsome Family.
The new Drunken Prayer album, Cordelia Elsewhere, mixed by Mitch Easter (REM), will be officially released in April 5th, 2019.
Over the past two years Drunken Prayer | Morgan Geer has played hundreds of venues across 18 countries and 15 US states including the Newport Folk Festival, San Franciscos Great American Music Hall, and the Pickathon Music Festival. Geers music has been featured on AMC, NPR, WFMU and SiriusXM.
Drunken Prayer will likely bring to mind The Band for a lot of listeners, with the sense of history and tradition. But Morgan Geers songs and his singing often suggest a kinship with artists like Bobby Charles or Doug Sahm, musicians with Southern roots, with a yip and break to their voices, and notes of sadness offset by a sense of humor.
On Drunken Prayers last release, The Devil and The Blues, Geer teamed up with members of The Reigning Sound and The Sadies on a journey through Americas weird musical heritage.

A. Lee Edwards was a member of Chocolate U.S.A., Bar None Records, in NYC and Athens GA, along with Julian Koster, before forming Lou Ford in Charlotte with his brother Chad Edwards in 1995. Lou Ford Released 3 albums beginning with Sad, but familiar in 97, Alan Freeds Radio in 99 and Poor Mans Soul, after reforming in 2007. Lou Ford disbanded in 2009 and the Edwards brothers formed the Loudermilks. The Loudermilks released their self titled debut Album in 2014 and their followup 'Monument' in 2016.
Throughout the years, Alan has shared the bill with the likes of the Avett Brothers, Alejandro Escovedo, John Doe, Whiskeytown (Ryan Adams), Dave Alvin, Old 97s, Todd Snyder, Syd Straw, Buddy and Julie Miller, Freedy Johnston, Eugene Chadbourne and Tift Merrit, among others.
