An extraordinarily moving film of a Babi Yar commemoration held in Melbourne, Australia. Babi Yar, in modern Ukraine, was the site of one of the largest and most vile mass murders committed during the Holocaust. Russian poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko risked angering his government in 1961 by writing what came to be his most famous poem, Babi Yar. The Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich was so inspired by this poem that he based a choral symphony on it. The film includes a moving recitation of the poem and an astonishingly beautiful and heart-felt performance of Shostakovichs Symphony No. 13 Babi Yar by the Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra.
