Behind Closed Doors: Understanding DomesticViolence and Fair Housing: "Ending The Silence And Healing The Home"
Victims of domestic violence live under constant threat. The threat of the abuse, poverty, health, loss of housing and even more, loss of life. This violence takes place in homes regardless of race, class, wealth, education or professional life. Sadly, policies and ordinances can unintentionally result in the punishment of victims seeking protection of the police from their abusers. Often the answer is...EVICTION!
The Virginia Fair Housing Office in collaboration with the Virginia Attorney General's Office, The Virginia Poverty Law Center, The James House and Safe Harbor will share information about the laws that protect victims of domestic violence.
We are honored to have as our guest speaker, Yewande Austin, an award-winning lecturer, activist and honorary U. S. Cultural Ambassador, sharing her knowledge of Human Trafficking not only in the US, but worldwide.
