WSMTA District VI Workshop & Concert: AMY RUBIN
District VI Workshop & Concert
This exciting program will feature Amy Rubin, a composer, pianist and teacher, and takes place at the beautiful Seasons Performance Hall in Yakima, WA. She is passionate about sharing music from around the world and inspiring teachers to try new things. Teachers are welcome to come and bring students with them to this fun and educational event.
This program features TWO workshops:
1. "Buried Treasures : untold stories and music of women composers." We'll learn about Hildegard of Bingen, Clara Schumann and other women from times past and present who were able to balance societal expectations with the demands of being a creative artist; Amy will perform their little known, but inspiring music.
2. "Ragtime, Tango and Samba...oh my!" : a musical tour through the scintillating rhythms of North and South America. We'll listen to Amy's piano performance of music by Gershwin, Joplin and others and understand why these magical rhythms make us want to dance.
The "Brown Bag" Concert will feature Amy Rubin, as well as a delicious lunch from the Essencia Bakery in Yakima (there is an extra cost for lunch, you are welcome to bring your own as well).
AMY RUBIN, pianist, composer, and speaker has written and performed music in all genres - for the concert stage, jazz ensemble, film, television and theater, both in the U.S. and abroad.
