There is nothing more important to the long-term vitality of American theatre as an art form than the nurturing of new voices.  PlayWorks is the first step in this process.  PlayWorks presents readings of new plays by contemporary, often local playwrights, giving them an opportunity to share their work and include the audience in the creative process.

Plays are performed by professional actors and each reading is followed by a audience discussion with the author, giving our supporters a rare opportunity to become an important part of the creative process and to engage the playwright with questions, comments and their personal insight into the work.

PlayWorks 2014 features:

October 6 - Two One Acts

Molly Bomaye' by Michael Puzzo

When Molly and Monty broke up, she left and he got the apartment. But since Monty can't afford to pay the rent on his own, he rents out atiny, semi private makeshift room. Nobody stays very long and with each prospective renter Monty must relive the breakup one more time.

Bunnies by Joanne Hoersch

At the NY Playboy Club in the summer of 1973, four Bunnies gather together at the end of their shift to discuss the night's experiences; the puzzling aspects of men, the nascent feminist movement, and the inherent sexism of a company that no longer wants to employ you after the age of thirty. The gift of Playboy, they realize, is an unplanned band of sisters, black, white, Native American, who learn to help and encourage each other to overcome the company's, as well as society's, attitudes towards age and beauty.

October 13 - The Dolly Project by Eric Conger

It's 1971 and Dolly,  a home raised chimpanzee,  is a media darling who can speak sign language,  smoke cigars,  and make tea.  But little girls grow up.  A story of good intentions  and bad results.

October 20 - Last Resort by Gino DiIorio

Julie is an aging activist turned research scientist. Her daughter Simone is also an activist, increasingly disillusioned with the complacency of her mother's generation. In a desperate attempt to win a victory for the environment, Simone takes extreme measures into her own hands that set the two women on a collision course.
