~~~ Thursday, March 26, 2015 "From Classical to Klezmerthe World of the Clarinet" featuring: Michael Corner, clarinet Rhonda Bradetich, flute Betty Corner, violin Steve Huber, violin Emily Onderdonk, viola Adelle-Akiko Kearns, cello Bill Everett, double bass Aileen Chanco, piano Katherine Lee, piano
While the clarinet is not as common in classical chamber music as say the violin or piano, its extreme versatility reaches across many styles. The program features two classical clarinet trios: Brahms Trio op. 114 and Beethoven's "Gassenhauer (Street Song)" Trio op. 11. Wildly popular among the vagabonds of 19th century Vienna, the third movement of Beethoven's trio incorporated a pop tune that was often sung at his local tavern: "Before I Work, I Must Have Something to Eat". The program then takes us to two mesmerizing and soulful works, infused with the Yiddish Klezmer music traditions of Eastern Europe, then presents us with a fun-loving and unique collaboration of double bass and clarinet. Finally guiding us through to a feverish finale, the experience ends with the tango-inspired music and driving rhythms of John Mackey's explosive work, Breakdown Tango.
Program: GOLIJOV Lullaby and Doina BRAHMS Clarinet Trio op. 114 SYDEMAN Duo for Clarinet & Double Bass GOLIJOV K'vakarat BEETHOVEN Clarinet Trio, op. 11 MACKEY Breakdown Tango
~~~ Saturday, May 30, 2015 "Fairytales" featuring Elizabeth Prior, viola Gianna Abondolo, cello Bill Everett, double bass Aileen Chanco, piano Katherine Lee, piano Antoine L. Cavalier, Painter
"The meeting of Music, Storytelling and Painting" In a rare and powerful cross-genre collaboration of artists, this program showcases how beloved fairytales from throughout the ages can be interpreted and reimagined by composers, painters and musicians of today. This program incorporates a multi-media show of works by French painter, Antoine L. Cavalier, which are his visual interpretations of the music on the evening's program. This concert has been made possible by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, Musical Grant Program.
