Standard Toykraft's Variety Freak Show!!

This month our variety show has a freak show theme. A night with magic, contortions, fire eating, music and puppetry!
We've put together a great night of carny-style entertainment!

Featuring:
CHRISTINE V DEMPSEY

A puppeteer, puppet builder, props artist, and art educator. She received her BFA the School of Visual Arts, where she studied Graphic Design, with a focus on toys, packaging, and functional sculpture. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Elementary Education at Lesley University, specializing in interdisciplinary art integration. Christine is also a repeat alumnus of the O'Neill National Puppetry Conference in Waterford, CT. She has performed in puppet slams throughout the country and is currently working throughout New York building fantastical things.

THE AMAZING AMY

WINNER OF FIRST PRIZE IN THE JULY 31, 2010 CONEY ISLAND TALENT SHOW! CIRCUS FREAKS AND SIDESHOW GEEKS CATEGORY!

The Amazing Amy (Harlib) is 59 years young, and has spent a lifetime studying various forms of movement and physical theater.

She became attracted to Chinese martial arts, acrobatics and Yoga in the early 1980s, and parlayed that into a solo performance career that took her to Taiwan, and back to her native NYC environs to perform in a wide variety of venues.

In 1994, injuries forced her to retire with a disintegrated disc in her spine, torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders, and arthritis that necessitated a total left hip replacement in 1998.

All that time Amy never stopped her Yoga, and so hated not performing that she used her extreme flexibility and zany imagination to re-launch her career in March 2009.

The Amazing Amy has appeared in variety shows and dance jamming with live bands and musicians all over the Metropolitan area, most notably in The Gong Show Live! at B. B. Kings and at The Cutting Room in NYC.

BEN DUROCHER is a multidisciplinary theater artist. Often combining puppetry and musical theater in a unique and playful way. He has performed on stages across the US, Canada, Australia and even while sailing the high seas. Credits include John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean, Disney's Toy Story: The Musical, Avenue Q (Skylight Theater, WI) and development of work at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Nothing like a dirty little puppet show!

ARLEE CHADWICK

Arlee Chadwick has performed for kids all over the world. She has pulled strings as a resident company member and costume builder at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park and on the road with the Puppets in the Park. She has appeared as a monkey and a spider at the Bronx Zoo with Boo at the Zoo! Tales of Amazing Tricksters with director Noel MacNeal and in the world premiere of Noel MacNeal's Mouse King. She has build and performed hand puppet shows for the nonprofit Puppetry Arts in Brooklyn. She was honored to be a puppeteer last year on Bristol Riverside Theatre's first National tour of The Little Prince as the "Rose". Previously, she has danced through 4 international tours to 7 different countries with Sesame Street Live and toured as a full body pony puppet with My Little Pony Live. She had appeared in regional theatre productions of Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Footloose, My Fair Lady, Westside Story, and Go, Dog. Go! She has just finished the first international tour of Jim Henson's Dinosaur Train Live directed by John Tartaglia.

MAGIC MAX
Magic Max is a third generation Carny. He started performing magic professionally at the age of thirteen. Max Kovins is also one of the world's fastest Hypnotists. His Comedy Hypnosis Show; ENTRANCED is on the first Saturday of the month at Standard ToyKraft. You can catch ENTRANCED in September on Saturday the 13th.

Max has performed at venues such as The Slipper Room, The Wow Café, Rehab, The Triad Theatre, The Bowery Poetry Club, and has been featured in shows such as Kitty Nights, Original Sin, The Sunday, Show, Hypergender Burlesque, Big and Little Banana Burlesque, The 2009 Coney Island Sideshow Benefit, and other shows as well.
