The Fantasticks

The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will open its new 2014-2015 season with the musical "The Fantasticks" with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones. It is the first musical to be performed in the new theater site. The production ran a total of 52 years and on September 15, 2013, gave its 20,000th performance, making it the world's longest-running musical. It has been performed in 3000 cities, all 50 states, and in 67 countries since its debut. Famous actors who have performed in the production include Liza Minelli, Elliott Gould, F. Murray Abraham, Glenn Close, Kristin Chenoweth, Robert Goulet, and Richard Chamberlain.

It is a charming, funny, and romantic story about a boy, a girl, two fathers, and a plot to get the two young people to fall in love. The narrator, El Gallo, originally played by Jerry Orbach, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The famous music score includes the classics "Try to Remember", "They Were You", and "Soon It's Gonna Rain", and is as timeless as the story itself.

The show is directed by Mari Kenney and produced by Cheryl Grace. The cast includes Abby Milliken, Tyler Santiago, Larry Clark, Lex Mauffray, Richard O'Briant, Jim Lindsay, Carol Lindsay, and Mari Kenney. Veteran musical director Judy Demarest will have her BSLLT debut. Daryl Himel is the show costumer. Laurie Spaschak will do set design. Set construction is by Dean Noel. Charles Dessommes will manage sound and lights.
