PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is currently replacing over 100 schools around the world. While undertaking this monumental effort, the agency realized that the new schools should not be just a newer version of their current schools; but that they had the opportunity to provide schools with the most current educational pedagogues and facilities that are safer and more energy efficient.

LS3P has completed design work for three of these schools in the southeast region and will present the school designs to show how the projects provide education facilities where excellent learning opportunities will be provided for students and meet very stringent design requirements.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS: Laura McLeod, AIA and Jennifer Schutte, AIA Senior Associates with LS3P ASSOCIATES LTD.

Ms. McLeod received her M. Arch from Georgia Tech. Since 2009, she has had a key role in assisting DoDEA by researching many aspects of 21st Century schools for DoDEA, including sustainable principles such as daylighting, building envelope design, and energy saving measures. Recently, Ms McLeod has been the lead designer for two 21st
Century DoDEA schools in the southeast.

Mrs. Schutte is a 2002 graduate of Kansas State University. Her passion is the K-12 education sector where she has led over 40 area public & private school projects including both new construction and renovations. Most recently, Mrs. Schutte has been involved in the design and production of two DODEA PK-5 schools that have centered exclusively around 21st Century Education philosophies and Sustainable Design practices.

The Charleston Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute is an approved continuing education provider for the AIA Continuing Education System. August's Program is presented by LS3P.

Members and students no charge, non-members and guests of members are $15 plus the additional BPT fee. Buffet dinner is included. Students must present student I.D. at check-in.
