Summer Creative Writing Youth Workshops at LitMore
This workshop series promotes literacy and strengthens writing skills by empowering young people to HAVE FUN discovering their own stories and voices on the page. We will write in response to prompts that break open the boundaries of how we usually think. We will do in-class readings of published work to get us talking about what creative writing is/can be, why we like what we like to read, and what else words can do when they don't exactly tell a story. We will regularly read aloud and respond to writing generated in the workshop enhancing critical thinking, listening, and presentation skills while prioritizing a positive space to be courageous.
Note to parents and guardians: Bring your manuscript, your laptop, your writing! The Youth Workshops are purposefully aligned with LitMore's open "Baltimore Writing Hour" (11am-3pm), so accompanying adults may take advantage of the quiet spaces available on the first floor.
Facilitator, Chelsea Lemon Fetzer received her MFA in Creative Writing from Syracuse University. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in journals such as Stone Canoe, Callaloo, Tin House, and Mississippi Review. She has developed and led writing workshops for youth and adults for over 12 years.
