Alamo City Chamber of Commerce 76th Annual Founder's Gala
The Alamo City Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1938 by Euretta Fairchild and 12 men to promote Negro businesses in San Antonio. Join us as we celebrate that founding year with two dynamic speakers, San Antonio's Mayor Ivy Taylor and Author Maggie Anderson.
A DREAMWEEK marquee event, you will be a part of the Who's Who in San Antonio while enjoying fine dining, live music, silent auction, wine pulls and more.
Hosting the largest Martin Luther King Day march in the country, it is fitting that Mayor Ivy Taylor deliver the "DREAM" portion of the evening. Our esteemed mayor will inspire us on our personal and global connection to Martin Luther King's Dream.
Speaking to the crowd on "BELIEVE" is Maggie Anderson, the author of Our Black World. Ms. Anderson spent a year only patronizing African American businesses. Listen as she shares her story. She will challenge your thoughts and actions. (http://authormaggieanderson.com).
The night begins with a VIP Reception and Networking plus our Silent Auction in the foyers of the Grand Oaks Ballroom. Arrive early and receive our signature cocktail as you select from fashion, travel, food, wine, art, sports memorabalia and more at our silent auction tables. The VIP Reception includes an open bar, a signed copy of "Our Black World", hors d'oeuvres, and sultry song stylings of Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughn. Music will be provided by Billy Ray Sheppard and the Main Event Band with guest appearances.
The Grand Oaks Ballroom will host our banquet. Your palate will be pleased with a custom menu prepared by Executive Chef Ryan Littman, named the 2013 Global Chef of the Year from Marriott International paired with wine selected by their sommelier. Jazz dinner music provided by Billy Ray Sheppard and the Main Event Band.
After our short program including our two speakers, our year in review, and videos from our sponsors, The Savoy will open. The Stompin' at the Savoy will host the VIPs in private lounge areas with our signature cocktail. A full band (think Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Confunkshun & the Gap Band) featuring Billy Ray Sheppard, the Main Event Band with Devon "Dev Soul" Wilson will play into the night while non-VIPs enjoy a cash bar. For the late night revelers, enjoy a late night buffet while dancing the night away. Put your dancing shoes on. We will see you there.
