Classically Brazilian

Classically Brazilian, the first of Staunton Music Festivals Brazilian-Weekend Concerts, will present a cross-section of Brazilian music, including classical masterworks for voice, piano, and chamber ensemble, along with representative selections from the popular Choro, which has been called the most sophisticated instrumental popular music in the world and the true incarnation of Brazilian soul, and from Forro, the most popular dance music of northeastern Brazil, with its timeless themes of love, passion, jealousy, joy, and grief. The program will include works by Villa-Lobos, Vallani-Cortes, Claudie Santoro, Francisco Mignone, Alberto Costa, Ernesto Nazareth, and, of course, selections from the popular traditions. The concert will take place in Staunton, Virginia's historic Trinity Church.
