SUBPRIME! Inside the Heart of the Mortgage Meltdown is a new tragicomic solo play that immerses audiences in the surreal, turbo-charged world of the subprime mortgage industry.

Written and performed by Norman Bell and directed by Helen Hayes Award winner Gin Hammond, Subprime is based on Bells actual experiences working for a subprime mortgage company in 2005, just as the housing bubble was reaching its peak.

The play depicts the rise and fall of the fictional mortgage company Trustworthy Home Mortgage and sheds light on the inner workings of the industry that went on to bring down the entire world economy.

Throughout the play, viewers meet several colorful characters, including brash phone room supervisor Rick Rogers, con artist and top caller Mick Ingersol, and up-and-coming junior loan officer John Bartlett.

The play follows Johns journey from being an altruistic beginner to being a successful loan officer who becomes willing to compromise his ideals in exchange for financial success.
