Conversations with Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel featuring Roy Furman

Southampton Arts Center presents a series of conversations moderated by Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, a writer, activist, television interviewer and producer, known for her involvement in the fields of art, design, architecture and public policy. Ms. Diamonstein-Spielvogel will be joined by luminaries in the fields of theater, publishing and architecture.

Roy Furman is Vice Chairman of Jefferies LLC and Chairman of Jefferies Capital Partners, a group of private equity funds. He was previously Vice Chairman of ING Barings for two years following a one-year stint as Chief Executive Officer of Livent, a leading North American theater owner and producer.

In 1973, Mr. Furman co-founded Furman Selz, an international investment banking, institutional brokerage, and money-management firm. He served as President and CEO until 1997, when the firm was sold to ING. For decades, he
has been a respected Wall Street analyst and investment banker involved with the entertainment industry, following and advising a wide range of public and private companies.

Roy is Vice Chairman of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Chairman Emeritus of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, a trustee of Guild Hall, and former President of the Phoenix Theatre and Vice President of the New York City Opera. He served as national finance chairman for the Democratic National Committee in 19921993, was national fund chair for Harvard Law School for two years, and chairman of the Brooklyn College Foundation for four years. He is a member of the East Hampton Golf Club, Palm Beach Country Club and the Friars Club.

He has produced dozens of Broadway musicals and plays, including The Book of Mormon (Best Musical Tony Award), War Horse (Best Play Tony), Cinderella, Tom Hanks in Lucky Guy, The Color Purple, Spamalot (Best Musical Tony), West Side Story, Gypsy, The History Boys (Best Play Tony), Inherit the Wind, Sly Fox, Fosse (Best Musical Tony), Bullets Over Broadway, Betrayal, After Midnight and Rocky.
