Concerts at the Gardens I - Stephen Stubbs & Pacific Musicworks
It's summertime once again, and that means that the Second City Chamber Series moves once again to the beautiful Wagner House at Lakewold Gardens in Lakewood. Lakewold Gardens will open at 6:30 for you to enjoy garden strolls, picnics on the terrace, followed by music to match!
The Puget Sound has a huge pull on its native daughters and sons, even on someone as distinguished worldwide as Stephen Stubbs. Stubbs attended the University of Washington in the 1970's, and soon thereafter made his way to the center of the "early music universe" of England and Holland. Stubbs would make his way in the world of early music in Europe and America, performing with such luminaries as Andrew Lawrence-King and Paul O'Dette. In 1981 he joined the faculty at the University of Arts Bremen in Germany where he would meet his wife, Maxine Eilander.
The pull of home brought Stubbs and his wife back to Seattle after 25 years in Bremenin 2006 they came to Seattle to found Pacific Musicworks, an ensemble that his distinguished itself as one of the very finest early music groups on the west-coast of the United States.
Mr. Stubbs' international career has meant that Pacific Musicworks has been able to bring the brightest and best in the early music world to Seattle for electrifying performances.
Says John Sutherland of the Seattle Times: "If Pacific MusicWorks ever does a concert at St. James Cathedral, just go. Don't even stop to look at what's on the program. Actually, see them anywhere. And actually, do look at the program, because it's bound to be brilliant."
We couldn't agree more!
