An Exercise in History: Historic 7th Avenue & Marston Formal Gardens Walking Tour
The 3500 block of Seventh Avenue contains important examples of Arts & Crafts Period architecture by four of San Diego's most prominent architects: Irving Gill, William Hebbard, Frank Mead and Richard Requa. Additionally, several other notable architects worked on these homes including Louis Gill, Hazel Waterman, and Emmor Brook Weaver.

Join SOHO for an exercise in history, which will include landscape, architectural, and family history from 1887-present for each of the present and former homes on the 3500 block of 7th Avenue and the Marston Formal Gardens and will briefly touch upon Kate Sessions' nursery that was located at the Northeast edge of Balboa Park at the turn of the 20th century. This tour is limited and is available through pre-paid reservations only.

Originally from Queens, NY, tour guide Kevin T. McManus is an American History Teaching Associate at SDSU and is currently employed by the San Diego Historical Society as well. The former Site Interpreter at the Marston House, he recently completed a 3-man effort to curate and install the SDHS' newest exhibit, Taking Flight: WWI and WWII Aviation Posters.

Kevin is also the author of the forthcoming book A Stroll Along Seventh: A Walking History of the 3500 Block of San Diego's Seventh Avenue.

Tour meets at the South Entrance to the Marston House driveway at 3525 7th Avenue in Balboa Park
