Space.City Lecture: Mark and Peter Anderson
Mark and Peter Anderson discuss their work and their latest book.

The Andersons' design and construction work has received numerous awards, including an Honor Award by Architectural Record Magazine and Tulane University in the "High Density on the High Ground" Competition (2006), a Design Merit Award, American Institute of Architects (AIA) California Council, for Orchard House, Sebastopol, California (2006), and a 2001 Progressive Architecture award.  In addition to the design and construction of numerous site-specific buildings, they focus on the design and prototyping of pre-fabricated, sustainable, and affordable building systems and on inter-disciplinary public art and performance collaborations, including Prairie Ladder (drawings in the collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art), and multi-media plumbing projects such as HotPlateColdPlateMudMapSnowBlindBladderBladder.  With the Construction Process Innovation Laboratory (www.constructionresearch.org), they have led student tours/seminars in Asian cities, and led student construction teams on large-scale creative research installations, including a bamboo and cable project, Clackety-Yak, at the University of Hawaii, and a carbon-dioxide-fixing algae wall prototype, ScumBagDirtClodGasHuffPhytoCurtain, at Tulane University.

Their most recent publication is Prefab Prototypes: Site-Specific Design for Off-Site Fabrication (2006). Their work has also been featured recently in several books: The Perfect $100,000 House: A Trip Across America and Back in Pursuit of a Place to Call Home, by Karrie Jacobs and Gary Panter and Cliffhangers and Hillside Homes, by Ashley Rooney.
