Tartuffe is one of Moliere's most popular of all his comedies, perhaps because we as a modern society are constantly dealing with hypocritical failings within well-established denominations or the shallow showmanship of mega-churches.

Written in 1664, Tartuffe is a hypocritical con artist, "the man who came to dinner," who has overstayed his welcome at a high class Parisian household during the era of Restoration. The family wants him out, but first they have to convince Orgon, the male head of the household whose infatuated with this seemingly pious man, that Tartuffe is nothing more than a downright scoundrel. But the family has got to move fast, for Tartuffe has eyes for Orgon's wife Elmire, and it's not about saving her soul, but enjoying her body by employing the fifth deadly sin!
