Asleep at the Wheel

On Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m., Arena Theater proudly presents Asleep at the Wheel the nine-time Grammy-winning Western swing band from Austin, Texas. Asleep at the Wheels original brand of high-energy Western swing will make you jump right out of your seats and have you boogying in the aisles to classics like Route 66 and Take Me Back to Tulsa. Led by guitarist and vocalist Ray Benson, this group of great musicians has been entertaining audiences for four decades. Since the bands humble beginnings in Paw Paw, West Virginia, Ray and the band have promoted knowledge and respect for the musicianship and soulfulness of giants of Western swing such as Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. Asleep at the Wheel has toured with Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan, and has performed A Ride with Bob: The Bob Wills Musical at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
