Here, Chicago
One of Chicago's most beloved & long-running storytelling events, Here Chicago is a homegrown evening of high caliber old fashioned storytelling: no pages on our stage! Five invited tellers with a diverse range of perspectives and experiences join five storytellers straight from the audience.
The beautiful stages of Stage 773 give our tellers a dignified frame, and give our audience comfortable seats. The show is a creative community-building event featuring a giant potluck dinner. By sharing food and stories, we offer Chicagoans from different professional, social, creative, political, cultural, religious and economic backgrounds the chance to meet on common ground and delight in each other.
If you want to share a story, bring a practiced, 4-5 minute story that you feel good telling without notes. Arrive at 7:30 pm to sign up. Not everyone who signs up will be selected, but the odds are good!

Our focus at these evenings continues to be unscripted, embodied story; the kind of old-timey storytelling that is practiced under porch-lights and on street corners and by fire-sides by people who have a truth to tell, whether through fact or fiction. We're talking traveling salesmen, sacred clowns, cab-drivers and camp-counselors and medicine women and good dads at bedtime. Slam poets and solo performers, stand-up comics and performance artists and elementary school teachers and your grandma. Teachers, actors, ministers, doctors, writers... the person in your family who keeps the family and traditional stories alive. You.
