Open HAUS with Schuhplattler Performance
Around the world, spring means love is in the air. Schuhplattler dances are dances of courtship, the men leaping and making loud noises to attract the ladies who twirl around the edges of the floor. Historically, Bavarian woodcutters spent their winters in the mountains and observed the elaborate mating rituals of the Auerhahn, a 3 foot tall, 12 pound grouse. Lonely woodcutters descended the mountains in spring and demonstrated their intentions through dances inspired by these birds. Visitors are invited to enjoy a spring evening of flirtation at the German American Cultural Center
Free and open to the public. Full bar and food available for purchase.
DANK Haus is located block from the Western Brown Line stop. Parking for this event is generously provided by MB Financial Bank at Western and Gunnison Avenues. This program is partially supported by Air Berlin, now with nonstop flights from Chicago to Berlin.
