"Giving Voice to a New Chapter: Descendants of Henrietta Lacks Speak"
Join descendants of Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman whose cells were removed from her body in 1951 and used to launch the modern age of medicine, in a captivating dialogue with Spencer R. Crew, Ph.D., the Clarence J. Robinson Professor of African American, American, and Public History at George Mason University, and curator of Defending Freedom, Defining Freedom: Era of Segregation 1876-1968, one of eleven inaugural exhibitions featured at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Together, they will explore the life of Henrietta Lacks, and the scientific achievements and ethical issues surrounding the use of her cells for biomedical research.
