Discover Miami Through Music- Masonic Mozart
The Miami Scottish Rite Center on the beautiful Miami River in Lummus Park: you've driven by it a million times, marveled at its Art Deco exterior but have you actually been inside? Here's your opportunity with Orchestra Miami's inaugural concert of the "Discover Miami Through Music" series, a new series of concerts in Miami's most interesting and historic landmarks.
"Masonic Mozart" is an all-Mozart concert inside Miami's iconic Scottish Rite Temple. One of history's most celebrated Masons, Mozart wrote numerous pieces for Masonic Ritual, for his Masonic brothers or based on Masonic symbols. "Masonic Mozart" is your opportunity to hear some of this great music where it was intended to be performed.
The program begins with the Overture to the "Masonic" opera "The Magic Flute", continues with "Die Mauerfreude" (The Mason's Joy) for tenor and orchestra featuring Tony Boutte, soloist, the Concerto for Clarinet, K. 622 with Richard Hancock, soloist and finishes with Mozart's greatest symphonic achievement, the "Jupiter" Symphony N. 41, K. 551 in C Major. Orchestra Miami will be led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi.
Following the concert, stay for a lecture on the history of the Scottish Rite Center and the historic Lummus Park neighborhood by Miami's own Dr. Paul George.
