New Ballards Branch Bogtrottrers & The Mountain Park Old Time Band at The Blue Ridge Music Center
Saturday, July 5th's concert - from 7-9 PM - is an Old Time Mountain Music Holiday Dance Party featuring Galax, VA's New Ballard's Branch Bogtrotters and Mountain Park, NC's Mountain Park Old Time Band.
The New Ballard's Branch Bogtrotters came together informally at the 1985 Fries fiddlers Convention and have since become well known and appreciated in traditional music circles. The name, The New Ballard's Branch Bogtrotters, is a tribute to the original Ballard's Branch Bogtrotters, a famous Galax-area band of the 1930s. The group has won the prestigious first place old-time band prize at the Old Fiddlers' Convention in Galax eight different years. Eddie Bond, the band's fiddler, is also a fine vocalist, and he knows many of the old mountain ballads that date back to previous generations.

The Mountain Park Old Time Band is made up of Johnnie Gentry (multi-instrumentalist), Nancy Gentry (bass), CJ Stamper (dancer), Roger Stamper (fiddle), and Mark Handy (banjo). The band has been very fortunate to have played at Bristol Rhythm and Roots for the past 3 years. They perform at the Carter Fold several times a year. They also play at the Alleghany Jubilee the second Saturday of every month. They have been featured on All Things Considered on NPR for playing at the second longest radio show in the country on WPAQ. They have opened for the Bluegrass super group Blue Highway as well as opened for the Carolina Chocolate Drops. They were the winners of Instrumental Group of the year at the Blue Ridge Uprising in 2013.
