In the Spirit of Christmas
Festive Voices is Calgary's premier a cappella Christmas ensemble, bringing the magic of the season to life through warm harmonies, polished vocals, and the timeless charm of classic caroling. With a blend of traditional carols and contemporary festive favourites, the group creates an uplifting holiday atmosphere that resonates with audiences of all ages.
Himat is an Urdu word meaning courage, perseverance in the face of difficulties, and with a little stretch, empowerment. Over the years the project has grown to be working with some 200 tiny communities in the scattered valleys of the Hindu Kush. and has also expanded to the desert plains of South Punjab where a whole new arm of the project has now taken root in an extremely poor and neglected region called Khanewal.
But now, climate change induced extreme weather is changing everything both in the north and the south. Droughts, glacier outbursts, flash floods, massive landslides, atmospheric rivers of rain, and heat domes that destroy crops in the field all of this creating unprecedented food insecurity and fear because the old ways of doing things are obviously not working.
Festive Voices is hosting these concerts to provide support for the work ahead in adapting to this new reality in a way that brings wellbeing, dignity and resilience
