In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn to create a stunning holiday gown inspired by fashion plates of 19th-century styles. Whether you're preparing for a Dickensian event, a historical reenactment, or simply wish to add a touch of vintage charm to your wardrobe, this class will guide you through the process of constructing a period-accurate gown.
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to delve into the art of historical garment construction, gaining both practical sewing skills and a deeper appreciation for Victorian fashion. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a costumer, or someone interested in sustainable fashion practices, this class provides a comprehensive introduction to 19th-century sewing techniques.
Students who might not be confident sewers: If you can sew a straight seam, sew a curved seam keeping the seam allowance even, and are familiar with troubleshooting your sewing machine, you will do wonderfully.
Bonus: Join us in Georgetown for their annual Holiday Market on December 14th, wearing your creation! Enjoy a Victorian Christmas festival complete with roasted chestnuts on an open fire, entertainment, horse-drawn wagon rides, and lovely company!
