The City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Valley of the Stars Film Society and Horror Vibes Coffee, invite the community to join us at the Lankershim Arts Center in the NoHo Arts District for an afternoon and evening of the LankerSCREAM Mystery Market and Movie Marathon on Saturday, April 5th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public and encourages horror fans to "Screen til you Scream, Shop til you drop! "
Shoppers will find spooky art, crafts, stickers, pins, clothing and accessories, coffee, food, treats, tarot readings, and tattoos in our mystery market from HandmadebyKittenFrost, Soul Tarot, Zoom Chen, Phoenix Tattoos, George, Kelton Ching, Horror Vibes Coffee, and more.
Plus, get ready for a spine-chilling, adrenaline-packed triple feature that will leave you questioning reality and craving more! If you're 18 or older, this is the perfect opportunity to experience three legendary horror films back-to-back:
1. They Live (1988) Directed by John Carpenter at 4:00 p.m. Kicking off the marathon is John Carpenter's They Live, a cult classic that blends sci-fi and social commentary with pure horror. Starring Roddy Piper, this film follows a drifter who discovers that the world is being controlled by aliens using subliminal messages in the media. With one of the most iconic fight scenes in movie history and a gritty, paranoid atmosphere, this movie is a must-see for fans of political horror and suspense.
2. Dawn of the Dead (1978) Directed by George A. Romero at 6:00 p.m. Next, dive into the groundbreaking world of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Considered one of the best zombie films of all time, this film takes place in a shopping mall where survivors of a zombie apocalypse take refuge. Romero masterfully combines social commentary on consumerism with the terror of the undead, creating a chilling experience that still resonates with modern audiences.
3. Chopping Mall (1986) Directed by Jim Wynorski at 8:00 p.m. Closing out the night is the ultimate 80s horror gem: Chopping Mall by Jim Wynorski. Set in a mall where a group of teenagers gets trapped after hours while a series of malfunctioning security robots begin picking them off one by one, this film delivers on both campy fun and slasher thrills. With its ridiculous premise and over-the-top violence, Chopping Mall has earned its place as a beloved B-movie classic.
This triple feature offers everything you could want: social critique, terrifying creatures, and campy fun. Whether you love your horror with a side of commentary or just want to watch people get picked off in hilarious and terrifying ways, this marathon has something for everyone. Come for the horror, stay for the thrills!
Make sure youre 18 or older to attend, as these films arent shy about gore and adult themes. Grab your popcorn, gather your friends, and prepare for a wild ride through the weird, the scary, and the downright bizarre. You wont want to miss it!
This event is free and open to the public.
