Join us for Where Waters Meet: the inaugural concert of the Spirit Vocal Ensemble, featuring the University of Calgary Chamber Choir, celebrating the vibrant pulse of Calgary and area through song. Drawing inspiration from the meeting of the Bow and Elbow Rivers, this program weaves together classic and contemporary choral masterworks that honor both our natural environment and community connections.
This experiential concert integrates a pre-concert gallery walk and talk by local visual artist, Megan Leung, as she explores our environmental connection through celebrating and promoting conservation of natural landscapes through science and art. The concert will connect choral works such as the mystical harmonies of Ola Gjeilo, the powerful voice of Sherryl Sewepagaham from Treaty 6, the innovative soundscapes of Katerina Gimon, and the transcendent beauty of Dan Forrest's compositions. Each piece in this program has been carefully selected to reflect the flowing convergence of cultures, voices, and stories that make our city unique.
As one of Calgary's newest vocal ensembles, we debut with a profound commitment to our community and environment, celebrating the landscapes that shape us while looking toward a future of musical excellence and meaningful cultural impact. Join us as we add our voices to the ever-flowing story of this remarkable place we call home.
