George Bisharat, or "Big Harp George," is a San Francisco Bay Area singer, songwriter, and chromatic harmonica player known for jumping West Coast blues. Since 2014 he has released 7 albums to critical acclaim, numerous award nominations, and global airplay. His current release, "Cooking with Gas," has just been nominated for a Grammy for Traditional Blues Album. George is praised for his vocals, songwriting, and stellar harmonica work, and for assembling bands of highly-accomplished musicians, who put on an energetic show that causes audiences to laugh, dance, and think at the same time. Georges cliché-free lyrics range from hilarious commentary on social issues to poignant reflections on love and loss. Before focusing on music, George was an award winning professor of criminal procedure and practice at UC Law San Francisco (formerly Hastings College of the Law), and is a frequent commentator on law and politics in the Middle East. George's current band, "The Hung Jury," consists of 6 renowned Bay Area musicians, including Grammy winners Mike Rinta (trombone) and Doug Rowan (saxophone), Edgar San Gabriel (bass), Piedmont-raised Jules Leyhe (guitar), Adam Briere (drums), and Ian McArdle (keyboards). The band represents two generations of Bay Area musical excellence, with Mike, Doug, and Edgar having decades of recording and performing experience, while Jules, Adam, and Ian are part of a new generation of extremely talented and well-trained musicians who bring youthful exuberance to the bandstand. The Piedmont Center for the Arts performance will consist of two 40 minute sets with a 15 minute intermission, to be followed by a reception.
Mike Rinta, a Grammy-winning trombonist & arranger, is native to the San Francisco Bay Area and has been freelancing for over 35 years. Jules Leyhe is one of todays greatest slide guitarists on the blues guitar scene. Leyhe has performed/recorded alongside some of the industrys heavyweights, including Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, Chris Cain, Charlie Musselwhite, Fantastic Negrito, and Wyatt Flores. Premier Guitar goes so far as to say Leyhe plays the best blues slide licks since Derek Trucks, maybe even Duane Allman. Leyhe has worked with some of the biggest names in the business, including the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Monster Jam, Pickup Music, Guitar Player magazine, Premier Guitar magazine, Vintage Guitar magazine, SF Jazz, BottleRock Napa, Blue Note, Salesforce, South by Southwest, and more. Leyhe is dedicated to carrying the blues torch passed to him from mentors like Buddy Guy and is always working to push the limits of what slide guitar and the blues has to offer. San Francisco-based musician, drummer, educator, and bandleader Adam Briere started playing the drums at the early age of five, influenced by the greats such as John Bonham, Elvin Jones, Mitch Mitchell, Stewart Copeland, and Mel Lewis. At an early age he quickly became immersed in the San Francisco music scene, playing everything from Rock to Jazz and Fusion. Adam received a BFA in Jazz Performance from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, where he studied and worked with influential musicians such as Adam Nussbaum, Allison Miller, Billy Harper, Matt Wilson, and Oz Noy. Ian McArdle is a pianist and keyboard player based in Berkeley, CA. He lives in Berkeley and has a busy schedule playing all over the Bay Area with many different artists.
