CATS
In association with the Rainier Beach High School Drama Department and the Seattle Public Schools, CATS will be presented at the Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center in a production newly and uniquely conceived, directed and presented by the Broadway Bound Childrens Theatre.

This will be the second production presented at Rainier Beach as part of a partnership between SPS and Broadway Bound, following the recent presentation of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS.
The production features students from Rainier Beach High School, as well as students from the Center School, Aki Kurose, Kennedy, Lynwood, and Todd Beamer and Cleveland High Schools.
The students are under the direction of Kibibi Monie, the Executive Director of the NU BLACK ARTS WEST THEATRE. The modern choreography has been created by a team of choreographers from the NORTHWEST TAP CONNECTION, under the direction of Melba Ayco. Together their work magically embodies the rhythms and characters with cat -like tread to dance us into the light of their memories, honoring the mystical nine lives of the feline kingdom.

This will be a CATS unlike any you may have seen before. With the conception of custom-made masks, make-up and hair created by renowned specialist Michael Todd Costain and costumes built by Broadway Bound costumer Rita Overton, the cats in CATS will be rooted in popular and cultural icons such as Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Prince, George Burns, and Eartha Kitt. As such Broadway Bound will once again offer their unique and individual approach to the live theatre in their trademark signature!

Adding to the storytelling of this oft told tale will be a not-to-be-missed ingenious interpretation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber score of CATS which will feature a choir from the Washington Middle School serving as a Greek Cat Chorus in and about the back alleyway of the cats eye set, designed by Jeffrey Cook and lit by Meg Fox.  Sound Designer John Studamire, working with Musical Director Melina Markland, has created a unique orchestration to highlight the TS Eliot poetry, Without question, this production has CAT-ITUDE!
Performances are Friday May 15 at 7pm, Sunday May 17 at 5pm and Monday May 18 at 7pm.
