Artists of Concordia Theatre Presents "The Seagull"

Concordia's production of Anton Chekhov's classic is set in the early 1960s, just as a new wave of bohemians appears to challenge the old. Like a wayward flock of seagulls in a strip mall parking lot, aspiring artists and pseudo intellectuals have congregated uncomfortably on a poorly run country estate, far removed from the comfort of their urban stomping grounds. On this occasion, an aspiring young playwright named Konstantin presents his first work to his mother, a successful dame of the stage named Irina Arkadina. When his work is met with derision, the young man is sent into a frantic identity crisis. His muse, a young country actress named Nina, has rejected his romantic advances and worst of all, has become the object of desire for his mother's young lover, a wildly famous writer named Trigorin. Replete with music, heartbreak, and humor, this Seagull brings the Russian master to the era of coffee houses and Greenwich folkways.
