Alleluia: A Choral Celebration
Make plans to attend "Alleluia: A Choral Celebration" a concert presented by Ashland's own Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale, under the baton of Artistic Director David Sinden.
Performances are as follows:
Sunday, May 4, at 3 pmRiver Road Presbyterian Church in Richmond
Sunday, May 11, at 3 pmDuncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland
The program will bring together a variety of choral works featuring the word Alleluia. Highlights include
"Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden"a joyful and melodic motet by J. S. Bach
"Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal"a rousing arrangement of a familiar 19th-century American shape-note hymn
"Rejoice in the Lamb"20th century composer Benjamin Britten's innovative musical setting of 17th century poet Christopher Smart's curious and intricate outpouring of praise composed in his asylum room.
