MattstaGraham and Raccoon Tour at Duffy's Tavern
Arizona's MattstaGraham and New Jersey's Raccoon Tour generally express their insecurities and anxieties in different ways -- the former with hyper-personal (and hyper-online) lyrics and early-aughts melodic hardcore riffing, and the latter with a more literary approach that will be especially familiar to Modern Baseball fans. But both share a penchant for writing supremely catchy pop-punk songs that are painfully self-aware and often pessimistic about the present and future. Their collaborative single, "The Future Didn't Amount To Much," is like a modern punk take on "We Didn't Start The Fire," calling out Apple's data collection, personal property-stealing bots, network news and lamenting the likelihood that they will never own a house. The real world's tough. Fast, angsty music will have to suffice.
The two bands play Duffy's Tavern on June 5. Local support TBA.
