Gravestones & Gears
Reviving the Victorian Fashion of picnicking in cemeteries, DVSS is escaping the autumn city heat for a cool cemetery and perhaps a ride on the Georgetown Loop RR.
Please bring a picnic lunch and a blanket or portable chair for seating. (Bringing enough to share is nice, but absolutely not necessary.)
We have been invited to the Silver Plume cemetery, so pending approval by the Silver Plume Board, we will be enjoying our picnic in the sub-alpine forest above the Georgetown Loop RR as it enters Silver Plume.
(If we do not gain their approval, we will be decamping to the Central City cemeteries.)
Both cemeteries are beautiful enduring examples of 19th century cemetery art and practice. Since they are treasured and historical spaces, our expectations are that we will treat the spaces with respect and leave them cleaner than we found them. The Silver Plume cemetery is sited in a fairly typical sub-alpine landscape, so sturdy footwear is suggested.
The attendance cap for Silver Plume Cemetery is 14 members.
For the "Gears" part of the day, we'll be taking a ride on the Georgetown Loop RR. (There is no attendance cap on the train ride, other than the number of available tickets.) The cost is $36 per person, so we understand that it's a bit spendy. For that reason, we don't expect that everyone will want to take part.
If you do, please make advance reservations for the 1:00 pm departure from Devil's Gate Station. https://www.dynamicticketsolutions.com/georgetownloop/index-responsive.cfm?pgfn=list&template_ID=0&DateDetail=2023-10-01

Accesibilidad
Accessibility varies - the cemetery is a sub-alpine mountainside, so footing is rough in places. The Georgetown Loop is fully accessible.
